Home Grown and Buying Local

What's in our food?

There are so many reports out now about the dangers of GMO's,  High Fructose Corn Syrup,  Preservatives,  Chemicals and many other things in our food.
Evidence is growing that many foods with additives are addictive like cocaine according to a growing body of Scientific Research.

I think it is a good idea for everyone to make their own choice about what they are consuming, but the choice should at least be an informed decision.

After a lot of reading and research, my husband and I have been slowly changing our eating habits over the last few years.  We grow more of our own food in our vegetable and herb gardens and hope to continue to expand.

We also try to buy from local farmers.  We raise turkey and Chickens, have recently started raising Goats, and hope to raise our own beef.

Do a little research on your own.  Only you can decide what is right for your  family.
As for us, we are not completely organic, nor have I stopped 100% eating fast food.  There is still that occasional desire to stop for a greasy pizza or order of fries. But we are buying more and more organic and natural products that we can not or do not grow ourselves.  We read labels... a lot.

This is a very interesting trailer of the movie, and regardless of which side of the debate you are on you need to start thinking about where your food comes from.

Something to think about,

  1. Because the FDA standards are lax in the organic food brands area, there are some companies and even farmers who are a part of associations that set stricter guidelines for the requirement of actual organic foods. The information in this article is not intended to provide personal medical advice, which should be obtained from a medical professional, and has not been approved by the U. Food may be one of the essential necessities individuals from Stone Age, so at the end of the morning it could make much sense to nibble on healthily as well as naturally as you can to ensure us to reside a long as well as a healthy life for many decades ahead. You hopefully know that potato chips are one of the worst foods you can eat. One of the major benefits is that this type of farming doesn't use harsh chemicals in its practices, so the nearby soil and water doesn't become contaminated.

  2. To be fair, organic farming does a lot of tilling, a LOT of tilling which causes major run off and so anything put on or into the soil including mature is going directly into the water table. Also, all that extra tilling that organic farmers do and conventional farmers do not do, is using way more fossil fuels and causing pollution. It has also been proven that some organic farmers sub-contract out to non-organic farmers. I am not on either side at this time and only recommend and suggest everyone make up their own mind and grow as much of their own food as they can. We choose to grow some of our food, meat as well as fruits and vegetables, so we know what's in, on it and how it was processed. Nothing is black and white, even in farming, and both sides of the farming coin have good and bad methods and practices.
